Tallahassee Solar, the City of Tallahassee’s first large community solar farm, is now in full operation, with participating customers expecting to see their portion of the solar energy appearing on their electric utility bill in February. The 20 MW solar PV plant, located on 120 acres adjacent to the Tallahassee International Airport, was built at a cost of around $33.2 million. It officially went online on 12/14/2017, when the terms of the Power Purchase Agreement with the owner of the solar plant, Origis Energy USA, went into full effect.
Participation in this 1st 20 MW community solar PV plant is fully subscribed. Over 2,000 residential and commercial utility customers now have 25%, 50%, or 100% of their electric energy allocated from the PV plant, depending on which option they elected. This energy is billed at a fuel charge of 5c/kWh.
