Today, the Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) granted Sunrun’s Petition for a Declaratory Statement regarding offering its solar lease product in Florida. Essentially this declares that Sunrun can offer residential solar equipment leases in Florida without it being considered a retail sale of electricity. In this way Sunrun is not subjected to regulation as a public utility as a result of offering residential solar equipment leases.
Sunrun Inc. (Nasdaq:RUN), is the nation’s largest residential solar, storage and energy services company. Florida regulators voted unanimously to grant Sunrun’s Petition. The solar equipment leases provide Floridians an easy, clean way to power their homes without dealing with the high upfront cost of solar panels, equipment, and installation. Sunrun will also fully maintain the system, offering households a hassle-free option for going solar.
After reviewing Sunrun’s draft lease agreement, commissioners determined the company’s 20-year solar equipment lease is not a retail sale of electricity.
